Whyalla is located 396km northwest of South Australia's capital, Adelaide. The city is the largest in the Upper Spencer Gulf region, and is located on the western shores of Spencer Gulf.

Whyalla is a four hour drive from Adelaide along National Highway One, and then on to Alternative Highway One southwest of Port Augusta - the coastal highway to Ceduna via Port Lincoln. East - West traveler's: simply turn off National Highway One 25km south of Port Augusta, and then rejoin the highway at Iron Knob after enjoying a visit to Whyalla. West-East traveler's should turn off at Iron Knob.
